Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is inspired by our theological vision of love, grounded in Christian principles, and committed to the holistic development of each pupil—spiritually, morally, socially, and academically.
Vision and Principles of a LOVE curriculum:
- L: Learning for all—An ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum that exceeds National Curriculum expectations, sparking curiosity, creativity, and a love for lifelong learning.
- O: Opportunities to grow—Nurturing resilience, creativity, and independence in all learners by providing a supportive environment and high-quality experiences.
- V: Valuing difference—Celebrating each child's uniqueness and ensuring our curriculum represents diverse perspectives, fostering mutual respect and empathy.
- E: Excellence in education—Commitment to high standards through reflective practice, evidence-based teaching, and structured progression of knowledge and skills.
Curriculum Design and Approach
Our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure clear progression from Early Years to Key Stage 2, equipping pupils with the vocabulary and concepts necessary for deep disciplinary knowledge. We emphasise critical thinking, oracy skills, and cultural awareness, preparing children for transition to secondary education and fostering their understanding of their role in the wider world.
Rooted in the teachings of St. Alphege, we nurture pupils to become compassionate leaders who actively shape their communities with love, justice, and integrity. Enrichment activities linked to the curriculum build cultural capital, celebrating diverse contributions to knowledge and achievement.
Commitment to Implementation and Continuous Growth
We prioritise ongoing professional development, equipping our staff with the expertise to deliver high-quality education. Lessons are designed to encourage deep engagement, with scaffolding and differentiated support to ensure all students, including those with additional needs, can access learning and achieve their potential.
Through regular formative and summative assessments, we track pupils’ progress, addressing misconceptions and promoting mastery of content. Our approach is grounded in a commitment to continuous improvement, reflective of both research and best practices.
Holistic Development and Lifelong Learning
We aim for each child at St. Alphege to "let their love show" by becoming confident, empathetic individuals ready to make a meaningful impact on society. Our curriculum not only supports academic success but also empowers pupils to live out the values of respect, resilience, and collaboration, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
